Planning for the Decadal Survey

The IR SIG Leadership Council is coordinating white papers for the upcoming Decadal Survey in a joint effort with the Origins Space Telescope (OST).  The POC for OST is Lee Armus and the POC for IR SIG is Eric Murphy.  The IR SIG has developed a list of potential white papers as a Google Doc available here.  A similar list has been put together by NRAO and can be accessed here.  Decadal plans were also discussed extensively at our IR SIG splinter session at the winter AAS meeting.  The slides from that discussion are available below.

This planned community effort will allow people to sign up to participate in writing white papers that are of interest to them and to cite other white papers appropriately.  The overall aim is to ensure that the FIR astronomy community speaks with a coherent voice in order to maximize our impact in the decadal review process.

Save the date: March 23, 2017 in Pasadena, California

Calling all who love those long wavelengths and high frequencies to the...

Far-Infrared Next Generation Instrumentation Community Workshop

Thursday, Mar 23, 2017 at Caltech, Pasadena, CA with sign-up for a tour of your SOFIA Observatory in Palmdale, CA on Friday Mar 24, 2017 morning (transport to/from Pasadena provided).

Come hear what you don't know already about SOFIA and the future plans for FIR balloon observatories and probes. Bring your knowledge of what science gaps we still have in the far-IR and how we can shape our existing and future platforms to get these measurements.

Community input is sought prior to the SOFIA Next Generation Instrumentation Call which will hit the ROSES street this summer. If you are unable to attend in person, a webex will be set up and an on-line submission form of your inputs will be collected and shared.
